What is MIC?
MIC is an organization of Men committed to the well-being of the Alcoa Community. MIC is an Acronym of the initials of the members that founded it. Men in Christ / Men in The Community. Our simply stated purpose is: To empower the citizens of Alcoa and the surrounding communities.
We intend to accomplish through learning and attacking the root causes of the Alcoa Citizen’s concerns. Many of our members grew up in this community during a time when the people here seemed to care more about one another and were more involved in the lives of our youth. The members attend various churches and fill various roles in the church such as pastors, deacons, teachers or church members. However, not all of our members regularly attend church nor is it a requirement to join. What is required is a healthy love for the well-being of the people and a genuine desire for each person’s well-being.
Our goal is to improve the man by speaking truth to their hearths and introducing them to the better alternatives that exist for them to achieve. The doors are always open in our desire that more brothers will man up.
- Robert D. Orange and Chianti Woodlee
“MIC is for me because it give me opportunities to make our community a better place for us to live. It provides me opportunities to work and fellowship with brothers and sisters with various backgrounds and professions. It also provides me the opportunity to mentor and promote the development of our youth. I know first-hand how important this can be in a young person’s life. In my teenage years, Mr. Luluse Jarrett took me under his wing and taught me character traits that I would need to become a man. Through his example, he taught me the value of hard work, self discipline, and being credible. Most of all, he showed me how to live a Christian Life. “ - Glenn Sankey
